Asaram Bapu: The Case So Far.

Asumal Sirumalani mostly known as Asaram Bapu by his followers, is a Hindu religious leader from India. He had 400 ashrams all over India and abroad in 2013. His limited number of followers kept increasing as local politicians became his devotees over time. Asaram began organizing spiritual discourses all over India.

 

However the first shock came on July 2013 as the mutilated bodies of two dead boys were found on the banks of the river Sabarmati  near the Ashram.There were allegations that the boys had been killed  by Asaram and his followers for black magic.Later in August 2013, a 16-year-old girl accused Asaram of raping her at his ashram.The girl's parents immdieatly  filed a complaint with Delhi Police.And a medical examination confirmed that the girl had been assaulted. Asaram has since been in jail and has been denied bail multiple times.Following the brave girl,two sisters came out publicly as well.They accused Asaram and his son Narayan Sai of raping them. Though Naryan evaded arrest for a long time, he was finally arrested on on December 4, 2013.

 

Following which the victims and their families started receiving death threats from Asaram's devotees. Prime witnesses in the case were mysteriously killed. Amrut Prajapati,a 56-year-old ayurveda doctor, was the first witness in cases against Asaram Bapu. He was killed. Amrut was not the only one. Akhil Gupta, a prime witness in a rape case against Asaram Bapu was shot dead in Muzaffarnagar. Kripal, an LIC agent was the third witness to be shot dead.The security at the victims houses have been increased ever since.

 

In a major breakthrough in the case ,the Anti-Terrorism Squad of Gujarat arrested Kartik Haldar, the man who allegedly shot the three witnesses. K D Patel who was arrested after his surrender in front of the local court was also Asaram's follower. He revealed that Asaram had planned to kill  a witness with his and Karthik's help.The victim had conducted a sting operation against Asaram after the death of the two boys. Asaram is currently lodged in Jodhpur jail and was recently rejected bail by a sessions court again.
