Is S.A.E Club Making NIT Kurukshetra The Detroit Of Haryana?
S.A.E NIT Kurukshetra Collegiate Club is orienting itself to research in motor sport. S.A.E. (Society of automotive engineers) International is a global body of scientists, engineers, and practitioners that advances self-propelled vehicle and system knowledge in a neutral forum for the benefit of society. The club started it's journey in 2009 with the formation of Team NITROX which was formed with the aim of participating in Mahindra BAJA- an ‘All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) designing and fabrication competition’. Team NITROX brought laurels to NIT Kurukshetra by placing 2nd in cost award. Making it the second most cost efficient car of the season. The team acclaimed the cash prize of 40, 000 INR.
S.A.E NIT Kurukshetra Collegiate Club is a body that provides a platform to exercise and sharpen the skills that would be required in the practical world. It has achieved several milestones reflecting the sincere efforts of its assiduous members. The club has already participated in three national level competitions. Mahindra BAJA (that involves fabrication of an All-Terrain Vehicle) bagged an AIR-35 out of 395 teams all over India. Second was Formula Student India (that involves making a Formula style car). Team Accelerons earned a rank of 25 out of 96 in this season. Lastly, Efficycle (involved in manufacturing a Hybrid vehicle) achieved an overall rank of 6 out of 90 teams. Apart from that, the club also conducts a national level workshop every year called AUTOKRITI. The workshop provides an opportunity for the aspiring engineers of about 50 colleges.
The project has repeatedly been awarded as the “Best Project” and applauded with a gold medal every year in NIT Kurukshetra. The S.A.E NIT Kurukshetra Collegiate club praised sincerely by LT. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam for their projects. The club conducts the yearly workshop AUTOKRITI over the past five years that provides an opportunity for the aspiring engineers of about 50 colleges. Students from all corners of the northern region participate in it. Besides this, the society has organized some overhauling workshops in other colleges too. Since NIT Kurukshetra has already come to the forefront of automotive research, what else can it take from Detroit?
