Tell us more about yourself?
I was born in a Defence family in Secunderabad. From there we lived in Siliguri, Srinagar and to each corner of the country. I did my schooling from Army Public School which was a great learning phase for me. And as we had to shift every third year to new location , I had to face a lot of challenges in terms of settling and getting acquainted with people. That's when I learnt the art of getting away from shyness. And as everything has its pros and cons, such scenario teached me to adjust well in my surroundings and helped me to understand our country's vivid culture and diversity. I did my B.tech from NIT, Kurukshetra in Mechanical Engineering and got places in Larsen & Toubro (L&T). I worked with L&T for almost two years and then set on my entrepreneurial journey with very little savings including the money from my Provident Fund & EPS. There was no money being credited in my account for the last five months but the first sell of my product gave me the sense of pride and a smile on my face that nothing else could give. It feels great to set on your own journey and create ur own path. Life has been a great experience full of rainbows and thunderstorms. With this idea of mine, I wish to help the less privileged as well by providing some part of my profits for their education. I am currently in talks with some of the organizations who constantly work towards this great purpose. I wish to fulfil the monotonous and dull lives of people with colour and creativity. People should smile more often and I want to give them a reason to do so with my witty designs.
What inspired you to do this product?
India has always been exalted and remembered fondly as the country of symbolic colors. To an outsider, its colorful culture, streets, and stories seem like a page out of an ancient folk tale. But color, in essence, has been a large part of the Indian consciousness. As I had travelled across India , I realised that rains are the best part of life. It gives us good energy and good mood while people enjoy having chai , pakoda etc. But it made me wonder that despite India being a colourful country our umbrellas are simple plain coloured which does not go well with the beauty of rains. And that is how I came up with designer umbrellas which make people smile as they see it and add beauty to nature with rainbows.
Coming from an engineering background how did you come up with this product and why?
Engineering has been a roller coaster ride for me. Had to take a gap year after my 12th to prepare for JEE. I eventually got into NIT Kurukshetra. Those 4 years turned out to be the best years of my life. I learnt a lot of things and many people became brothers over the four years. Engineering has taught me a great deal apart from the technical aspect as well utilising the available resources and keep going are a few of them. We engineers often have the knack for trying to get into things and resolve issues whenever we can. One fine rainy day in Bombay, sitting at my desk in our Powai office, I saw people walking with their umbrellas open. The view from my seat was quite amazing. A look at the rainbows and then down at the road had contrasting effects. That's when it occurred to me that if all the dull Umbrellas were replaced by colorful ones, the view would be much more cheerful. And here we are.
How did you come up with the name Kehklo? What does it mean?
Every founder wants their startup name to be remembered easily. After a hectic schedule me and my friends were watching Gangs of Wasseypur which had famous dialogue “ Uss H*r*m* ko mitana hai humein, goli nahi marenge, Keh ke lenge”. KEH K LO is a combination of KEH and LO . KEH is hindi word which means SPEAK and LO is another hind word which means BUY. How will you buy without speaking so speak n buy or Keh k lo.
How do you come up with the designs of your umbrella?
Basic mantra for our designs is to make them smile when they see our umbrellas , so we came up with those designs which are a part of day-to-day activities of peoples which they like or which they follow. Therefore we designed different things for rock music, art lovers, corporate people and one cultural.
