CEO of Apple Inc, one of the most powerful and most valuable company on the planet is visiting India this week. Tim Cook plans to meet PM Modi, launch a new map center in India and give a speech among other things.

India is a fast developing country and in a position to become the largest consumer market for smartphones. This makes it important for giants like Apple to make inroads into the country over coming regulatory hurdles. This is Cook's first official trip to the country where he is also looking forward to launching a new accelerator program for iOS developers. The new maps center will be opened in Hyderabad which is an IT hub in itself.

Apple had earlier unveiled plans to open retail stores across country and wanted to sell refurbished smartphones but met strong opposition from the government of India. Maybe this time things will change or maybe they will not. Cook is certainly looking hopeful. A representative says that Apple is also looking to bring manufacturing and developing unit in India which will make it possible for the tech giant to offer its products at cheaper rates.

Modi on the other hand is busy with the preparation of several state assembly elections that are also due this same week. Tim Cook once said that he sees India at a position where China was around 10 years ago and this is good news for the country.
